Prayer Letter - October 2009
October 2, 2009
Dear friends and family,
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:19
For the last few weeks in our family devotion time we have been teaching the girls about the different aspects of prayer. On Tuesday, we began discussing the fact that God meets needs. On Monday, God had met a very large need that we had. He provided the funds to finish the roof on our house, which was over $2,000. It provided a very good illustration for our devotions. As a family we were able to thank God for meeting our needs in a very visible way.
As I write this letter Melissa and I are preparing to take the final exam for the second Spanish book. We will then have a week long break before we start the third of five books. Please continue to pray that God will give us wisdom and understanding. The most difficult part for us right now is speaking in Spanish. We can understand people and understand how Spanish is used, but putting it into use is more difficult.
The girls and I experienced our first “big” outing with the deaf school today. They took the whole school to the zoo. We had around 100 people, counting all the students, teachers, and parents. They had rented two buses (35 passenger) to take everyone. We packed into the buses and took off. Instead of taking the main roads to the zoo our drivers took the side roads, so our 45 minute trip turned into an hour and a half. We also took our lunch with us, rice and chicken. We had a huge pot of rice in our bus also. The bus ride and the zoo did not cost anything for any of the school age children. When we arrived at the zoo there were several more schools there. The zoo was packed full of people, but the children seemed to have a good time.
We would ask that you pray for our future ministry with the deaf. We should be finishing language school the end of March or the first part of April. We will then begin working full time in the ministry training people to work with the deaf and to start deaf ministries. There is a great need for men to have a burden to work with the deaf.
I would like to let you all know of a program that I would like to start next June. As we traveled on deputation, God really burdened my heart for the need for Godly young men. I would like to have 3-4 young men ages 17-20 to come down and spend 10 to 12 weeks working down here with us. The goal of the program is to challenge these men to be men of character who are not afraid to stand for the truth. I believe that America is in desperate need for Godly men. We will be calling the program “Quit ye like men” from I Cor. 16:15. If anyone would be interested in this opportunity please contact me either by e-mail or telephone and I can send you more information. I am excited about the possibilities of what God could do in the lives of young men who want to fulfill God’s will in their lives.
Thank you again for all your prayers and support.
In Christ,
Cory, Melissa, Amanda, Elaina, and Olivia
